Hautamaeki Wins World Cup Ski Jump

ZAKOPANE, Poland (AP) _ The winning streak of Germany’s Sven Hannawald ended Saturday when Finland’s Matti Hautamaeki captured a World Cup ski jumping event.

Hannawald, the Four Hills winner, was bidding for his sixth victory in a row.

``Someone had to beat Sven at some point,″ Hautamaeki said.

Hautamaeki won with 259.6 points for jumps of 123.5 meters and 131 meters. Hannawald was second with jumps of 124 and 130 meters for 259.2 points.

Austria’s Andreas Widhoelzl was third. He led after the first round with a jump of 124 meters. He registered 124.5 in the second round and totaled 249.8 points.

More than 50,000 fans came from across Poland to see World Cup leader Adam Malysz. But the Polish jumper finished seventh with jumps of 120.5 and 121 meters for 236.7 points.

``It was like lottery _ wind from behind, wind from the front,″ Malysz said.

Another World Cup ski jump will be held Sunday.
