Maui woman still missing after weeklong forest search

May 18, 2019

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — Despite an extensive search, a 35-year-old Maui woman has not been found a week after going missing.

The Maui News reported Friday that police say there are no “red flags” or evidence pointing to foul play in the disappearance of Amanda Eller, but they continue to investigate new leads.

A massive search began May 9 after Eller’s vehicle was found in Makawao Forest Reserve, where friends say she liked to run and hike. She was last seen a day earlier.

Police are trying to identify people who may have been in the area when she vanished, including the driver of a pickup truck that was observed parked next to Eller’s vehicle, a van that was seen driving in the area, and a couple, possibly tourists, who were seen hiking.
