MARTY BALIN SUES OVER TRACHEOTOMY

NEW YORK (AP) — Marty Balin (BAL'-ihn) of Jefferson Airplane says a New York City hospital has destroyed his musical career. Balin has filed a lawsuit against Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital, alleging he lost part of his tongue and has a paralyzed vocal cord after a botched tracheotomy done after heart surgery in 2016. He says he cannot eat or speak properly. His lawsuit also says his left thumb had to be amputated because of "reckless, careless and negligent" treatment. Balin is seeking unspecified damages. A statement from the Mount Sinai Health System says it cannot comment on the specifics of the case but patient care is its highest priority.

14 HURT BEFORE BACKSTREET BOYS CONCERT

THACKERVILLE, Okla. (AP) — Howie Dorough of The Backstreet Boys says the weather before their show in Thackerville, Oklahoma, did its own preshow performance and he hopes everyone is safe. At least 14 people were injured after trusses collapses at the entrance to a resort in Thackerville where the Backstreet Boys were supposed to perform Saturday. WinStar World Casino and Resort says it started evacuations because of bad weather, and about 150 people did not leave by the time the storm hit. Singer Kevin Richardson says about 12,000 people were expected. The concert will be rescheduled.

YOUNG THUG ARRESTED

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Young Thug faces a weapons possession charge after he was arrested just after midnight Friday at his record release party in Los Angeles. Police say Young Thug was hosting a party to celebrate the release of his "Slime Language" album with several hundred people at a Dave and Buster's sports bar. Officers detained several in the crowd, including Young Thug, and officers found a firearm inside his car. Police did not give any more details on what happened. Young Thug was being held on $35,000 bail. He had been arrested last September on a drug and gun charges after a traffic stop in Atlanta. His attorney did not answer a request for comment.

JONATHAN DAVIS' WIFE DIES

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jonathan Davis of Korn has issued a statement asking for "the space to mourn in private" after the death of his estranged wife, Deven. The statement says the Davis family is "brokenhearted." Billboard reports Deven Davis died at the age of 39, but details of her death were not given. The couple married in 2004 and had two children together.

CARDI B LEADS NOMINATIONS FOR MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

NEW YORK (AP) — MTV is working out the details of how it will pay tribute to Aretha Franklin during tonight's MTV Video Music Awards. The show's producers say they're trying to find the right tone and right artist to pull it off. Cardi B will open in the show in her first performance since giving birth six weeks ago. She's also the lead nominee with 12, including artist of the year.

CHICAGO (AP) — Bazzi knew what he was doing in making his song "Mine" at barely two minutes long. Bazzi says he makes music the way he wants to hear it and he understands how people consume music. NICK JONAS AND PRIYANKA CHOPRA ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT

NEW YORK (AP) — Nick Jonas and actress Priyanka Chopra have gone public with their engagement. They each posted the same picture of themselves on Instagram with an engagement ring prominently on Chopra's finger. Jonas writes, "Future Mrs. Jonas. My heart. My life." Chopra writes, "Taken...With all my heart and soul." They have been dating for two months. She's 36, he's 25.

TRAVIS SCOTT BEATS OUT NICKI MINAJ FOR NUMBER ONE ALBUM SPOT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Travis Scott maintains his lead on the Billboard 200 album chart, despite a challenge from Nicki Minaj. Scott's "Astroworld" is number one for a second week, moving 205,000 units. Minaj's new one, "Queen," moved 185,000 units. Drake's "Scorpion" is third, Trippie Redd is fourth with "Life's a Trip" and Post Malone's "Beerbongs and Bentleys" is fifth. The surge of interest after the death of Aretha Franklin on Thursday as put her "30 Greatest Hits" back on the chart, at number 7. It's her highest-charting album since 1972, when her "Amazing Grace" hit number 7.
