Bill de Blasio, Democratic NYC mayor, not ruling out 2020 run, says Democrats need to be ‘bolder’

January 13, 2019

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio would not rule out a 2020 run for the White House on Sunday, but he said his party could be a lot bolder.

Im focused on the job I have, the Democratic mayor said on CNNs State of the Union.

Right now, our party is going through a serious debate, and there are still a lot of moderate voices in the party who did not learn the lessons of 2016, Mr. de Blasio added.

He said his party should speak to working-class voters about getting them adequate health care coverage.

His comments came after he proposed that New York spend $100 million a year on public heath coverage for the poor, including costs for illegal immigrants.

Our plan is guaranteed healthcare for all, Mr. de Blasio said. We should have single payer in this country Medicare for all.
