Children invited to ring in the new year a little early at Red Bone Alley

December 28, 2018

FLORENCE, S.C. – Ringing in the new year happens a little too late for most little ones to celebrate. But children don’t have to miss out on the fun anymore.

Red Bone Alley will give the younger crowd an opportunity to ring in the new year in style.

“We have always thought that kids were left out on New Year’s so for at least 20 years now, we have counted down to the new year for the kids a few days early,” Red Bone Alley General Manager David Poland said.

This year’s party kicks off at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Red Bone dining room.

“We will have a DJ playing loud music for the kids to dance to, clowns painting the kids’ faces and a sparkling cider toast at 6 p.m.,” Poland said. “During the toast, we’ll drop a hundred balloons down on the kids right in the middle of the dining room. And some of the balloons have cash in them. All the kids love it, and they feel included in the holiday.”

The party usually draws more than 100 children between the ages of 3 and 12 (though there is no set age requirement) and because it has become such a popular event, Red Bone conducts the event in the afternoon when the restaurant isn’t typically as busy.

“It gets pretty packed and between the music and the children having fun, it can get quite noisy, almost deafening at times, so that’ s why we have it in the afternoon,” Poland said. “This way, the kids get the run of the dining room and can just run around and play and have fun.”

The event is free and open to the public, but the restaurant’s full menu is available for families who want to purchase a bite to eat or a beverage and join in the fun.

Reservations are not required but are recommended, especially for larger groups.
