WINSTON-SALEM (AP) _ Brandey Lemons scored 21 points to lead Bowie State to its 27th consecutive victory Saturday, a 60-37 verdict over Fayetteville State in the championship game of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association women’s tournament.
Lemons hit 9 of 16 shots in the game and the Bulldogs (28-1) led by as many as 15 points in the first half and built the lead to 50-33 with less than eight minutes to play in the game when Lemons connected on a short jumper.
Rashida Brooks scored 11 points for Bowie State, which held the Broncos to their lowest scoring game of the season.
Deidre Justice led Fayetteville State (24-4) with 10 points. The Broncos shot only 18 percent from the field (14 of 79).
Fayetteville State’s Tammy Brown, who came in averaging more than 20 points a game, was 0-for-11 from the field in the first half and had three turnovers. She ended up with seven points on 2-of-26 shooting.
With the win, Bowie State won the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
