Police notebook for Feb. 27, 2019

Information is taken from the records of the Portage Police Department and does not represent a comprehensive list of police activity. Each individual named in this report is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Between 8:13 a.m. on Feb. 19 and 7:58 a.m. on Tuesday, police issued 12 parking tickets during a snow emergency and responded to 227 calls, including the following:

West Pleasant Street: Police at 8:46 a.m. on Feb. 19 responded to a report of theft after a man said he ordered a watch off eBay and received a rock inside a package that appeared to have been tampered with.

Cass Street: Police at 11:33 a.m. on Feb. 19 cited Jory T. Keating, 29, of Portage, for a fourth offense of operating after revocation.

East Franklin Street: Police at 4:39 p.m. on Feb. 19 cited Ashley M. Vista, 25, of Portage, for a first offense of operating after suspension. Police reports indicated Vista, who has previously been charged with operating after suspension, was not the registered owner of the vehicle, but the vehicle’s owner was revoked.

West Oneida Street: Police at 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 19 arrested a 52-year-old Portage man for disorderly conduct, battery and violation of parole.

West Cook Street: Police at 12:53 p.m. on Wednesday cited Zachary J. Peplinski, 29, of Portage, for a sixth offense of operating after suspension.

West Oneida Street: Police at 2:39 a.m. on Friday arrested a 29-year-old Portage man for domestic disorderly conduct. Police planned to house the man at Columbia County Jail and issued a 72-hour no contact order.

New Pinery Road: Police at 8:34 a.m. on Friday responded to a report of an unknown male suspect shoplifting food products worth a total of $60.

West Cook Street: Police at 8:27 p.m. on Friday cited Robert E. Harris, 28, of Portage, for disorderly conduct after Harris reportedly made a threatening gesture during a verbal altercation.

DeWitt Street: Police at 2:55 p.m. on Saturday issued misdemeanor citations to two Portage females, age 42 and 55, for domestic battery. Police also issued a 72-hour no-contact order.

West Wisconsin Street: Police at 9:46 a.m. on Sunday cited Jacob C. Kratz, 25, of Pardeeville, for a criminal offense of operating after revocation, a misdemeanor charge of violating felony bond conditions and failure to install an ignition interlock device. Kratz is scheduled for a court appearance on March 6.

New Pinery Road: Police at 10:21 a.m. on Sunday cited Morgan M. Zywiki, 22, of Portage, for a fourth offense of operating after suspension and not having proof of insurance. The vehicle was towed at the owner’s request.

West Wisconsin Street and Herman Street: Police at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday arrested Corbin Michael Marsala, 27, of Portage, for a third offense of operating after revocation related to a prior charge of operating while intoxicated. A K-9 team also located marijuana on a passenger, Dawson William Geuder, 20, of Portage, who was arrested for possession of THC and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Oakridge Drive: Police at 3:28 p.m. on Monday respond to a complaint of theft of a mail package that had been left at the front door.
