Delaware 28, West Chester 7
NEWARK, Del. (AP) _ Quarterbacks Brian Ginn and Matt Nagy each threw touchdown passes as Delaware beat West Chester 28-7 Saturday.
The Blue Hens (2-1) overcame 12 penalties and eight sacks and limited the Rams to just 200 total yards, holding them scoreless until the eight-minute mark of the final quarter.
The Blue Hens improved their home record to 17-0-1 since 1994.
West Chester drops to 0-3 for the first time since the 1978 season.
Victory was costly as Eddie Conti, one of the top kick returners in the country, tore ligaments in his left knee. He will be lost for the season. Conti, averaging 22.8 yards per punt return and 30.7 yards per kick return, was injured on a 26-yard punt return in the second quarter. Delaware free safety Dale Koscielski also tore knee ligaments in the fourth quarter and will also be lost for the season.
West Chester, which lost to I-AA Villanova and Division II power New Haven in its first two games, scored its only points on a 13-yard pass from Mike Mitros to Bill Lowe with 8:18 left to play.
