Former Naval Academy Superintendent Dies
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) _ Former Naval Academy Superintendent William Renwick Smedberg III died of congestive heart failure. He was 92.
Smedberg, who retired as a vice admiral in 1964, served as academy superintendent from 1956-58. During World War II he commanded the destroyer Lansdowne and the destroyer Hudson. He was captain of the battleship Iowa during the Korean War.
Smedberg died Oct. 5. He is survived by three children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
