GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Celtic was held to a 1-1 draw at St. Johnstone on Tuesday, but still increased its lead in the Scottish Premier League to 19 points after second-place Motherwell lost 1-0 at home to Dundee United.

Nigeria defender Efe Ambrose put Celtic ahead in the 37th minute, only for Nigel Hasselbaink to deny the champions with the equalizer with eight minutes remaining.

Motherwell's priority is staying in second place rather than attempting the near-impossible task of reeling in Celtic but Jonny Russell's 17th-minute winner for Dundee United keeps Inverness just two points adrift in third.
