WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) _ Brian Hopkins put back his own missed shot as the buzzer sounded, leading Holy Cross to a come-from-behind 71-70 victory over Army in a Patriot League game Wednesday night.

Army (6-15, 1-7), which lost its eighth straight contest, led 66-56 following a George Tatum layup with 6:56 remaining, but the Cadets missed their final eight shots from the field.

Tatum led all players with 22 points, including the 1,000th of his career, but missed two costly free throws in the waning seconds that gave Holy Cross (6-15, 2-5) a chance to shoot for the win.

A Jon Kerr basket brought Holy Cross within one with 20 seconds left, before Tatum missed the crucial free throws.

With less than five seconds left, Hopkins spun in the lane and forced a shot that bounded off the rim. But Hopkins picked up the rebound and his put-back caromed into the basket moments before the buzzer sounded to snap Holy Cross’ four-game losing streak.

Holy Cross went on a 15-5 run to tie the game at 52 midway through the second half. The Black Knights embarked on a 14-4 run to regain their 10-point advantage before the Crusaders’ game-winning rally.

Dax Pearson added 13 points and eight rebounds for Army. Kerr led Holy Cross with 16 points and six rebounds, while Hopkins finished with 13 points.
