Three dead and two injured in crash outside Dells
Three Illinois men are dead after a fatal two-vehicle crash on Saturday evening southeast of Wisconsin Dells.
The crash, which also injured two others, occurred at about 6 p.m. according to Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards.
The three Illinois men were believed to have been traveling north on County Highway O in the town of Newport in a Toyota 4Runner, according to Richards. The vehicle then failed to yield at a stop sign at State Highway 127 and was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado traveling west on Highway 127.
When the paramedics and sheriff’s deputies arrived, the three men in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was driven by a 33-year-old woman who was taken to the University Hospital in Madison by MedFlight, while her 33-year-old male passenger was taken to St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo by Wisconsin Dells EMS.
The two subjects in the truck were wearing seat belts, but none of the three men in the Toyota were restrained during the crash, which also damaged a nearby utility pole, Richards said.
The intersection was temporarily closed for investigation and repair of the utility pole.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol, with details of pending of possible alcohol or drug use, or undue speed at the time of the collision.
Names of the victims involved in the crash have been withheld pending notification of family.
