Police: Suspicious item put on Xmas tree just before parade
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, have accused a man of attaching an item to the city’s Christmas tree that resembled an explosive device, just before the start of a holiday parade.
Police determined the item placed on the tree Saturday was a hoax. The parade was held.
They arrested 36-year-old Richard Todd Will on charges of criminal threatening and disorderly conduct. He was released on bail and scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 14.
It wasn’t immediately known if Will had a lawyer and a phone number couldn’t be found for him.
