Fighting Tigers, Highlanders to highlight Ironton Classic
IRONTON - Ironton’s boys and girls, Huntington High’s boys and Ashland’s and Coal Grove’s girls are some of the teams in the 11th Ironton Classic high school basketball showcase Friday and Saturday at IHS’ Conley Center.
The even begins at 3 p.m. Friday with Ironton St. Joe taking on Coal Grove in a boys game. That contest is followed at 4:45 p.m. by M.A.C.K Prep of Charlotte, North Carolina, playing Cincinnati Taft. At 6:30 p.m., the host Fighting Tigers take on Chillicothe in a boys game. At 8:15 p.m., the games conclude with Huntington Prep’s boys versus Wesley Christian of Allen, Kentucky.
Saturday’s games begin at 1:15 p.m. with Ironton entertaining Warren in a girls game. At 3 p.m. in a boys game, Cincinnati Taft plays Wesley Christian. In a boys game at 4:45 p.m., Huntington High takes on Columbus Africentric, followed at 6:30 p.m. by Huntington Prep vs. M.A.C.K. Prep. The event finishes with an 8:15 p.m. game featuring the Ironton boys taking on Ashland.
“I am extremely proud of the efforts of our committee and participating sponsors,” Ironton boys coach and athletic director Mark Lafon said. “Proceeds from the tournament will help remodel the Conley Center, provide scholarships, and more. This tournament has been a goal of mine for a very long time.”
Tickets cost $10 apiece and are good for all games that day.
