Altoona Curve auditioning national anthem singers at Fire & Ice Festival

January 8, 2019

The Altoona Curve will host auditions during the Fire & Ice Festival Jan. 19 for a chance to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “God Bless America” at Peoples Natural Gas Field during the Curve’s upcoming season.

Auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 at the Somerset County Courthouse, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Anthem lyrics will be provided upon request. No CDs, tapes, emails or other submissions will be accepted.

The tryouts coincide with Somerset Inc.’s 24th annual Fire & Ice Festival Jan. 18-20 in Uptown Somerset. The event includes more than 40 ice sculptures displayed at local businesses, fireworks, live ice carvings, music, food and local artisans.

Somerset Inc. Executive Director Regina Coughenour said the tryouts are a fun addition to the festivities.

The Curve, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double A affiliate, will also hold a second tryout from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 2 at the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The Curve’s baseball season opens at home at 6 p.m. April 11 against the Akron RubberDucks.
