Bennington College poised to reoccupy fire-damaged building
BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Officials at Bennington College say they hope to reoccupy by next week most of a building that was damaged by fire last week.
An investigation determined the cause of the fire in the building at the college in the southern Vermont town of Bennington known as the Barn was electrical and it has been ruled accidental.
The H-shaped, two story building that contained classrooms and offices was evacuated quickly after the April 30 fire was reported. No college employees or students were injured, but a firefighter suffered a minor injury.
College officials are on track to reoccupy 80 percent of the first floor of the building on Monday. The second floor will remain closed for the rest of the school term for repairs and cleaning.
