Benedictine University seeks selling campus as 1 parcel

March 20, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Benedictine University is hoping to sell its Springfield campus as one piece of property, rather than several parceled lots.

The Illinois school is committed to maintaining all of its campus buildings and grounds until they’re sold as one parcel, The State Journal-Register reported.

“President Brophy has said that campuses like this do not come onto the market frequently, and there is specific interest in a whole college campus over the course of time,” Kirby said. “So it made sense to him to list it as a single entity.”

The university ended its traditional daytime undergraduate programs in Springfield in 2014 to focus on providing night classes to adult students. School officials announced last month that they will vacate the campus in favor of having classes at educational partner institutions.

“We will maintain the campus until it sells, however long that takes,” said Benedictine Springfield Campus Director Janet Kirby. “That includes security and the maintenance of the grounds.”

The campus and its appraisal are expected to be available to buyers within 30 days.
