Trooper treated after cruiser struck during chase
MCCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a state trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck during a chase in York County.
The Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper pulled over a car on U.S. Highway 81 near the Interstate 80 interchange, but it soon took off early Sunday morning, headed south in the northbound lanes. The patrol says the highway chase reached speeds of 100 mph (161 kph) as troopers chased the car into McCool Junction. The car struck one of the cruisers on the driver’s side during the chase, injuring the trooper.
The car then reversed course and headed north in the southbound lanes before being stopped by a trooper.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of assault on an officer and other crimes. His two passengers were arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine possession. York County Court records don’t show they’ve been formally charged yet.
The injured trooper was treated at a hospital and released.
