LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a man was shot by an officer after stabbing two women.

Authorities said the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition following Friday's shooting. His name was not immediately released.

The women were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, one woman was riding the bus when the suspect stabbed her in the neck. She was able to get off the bus and look for help.

Police say the suspect also got off the bus and grabbed another woman on the street and stabbed her. She was able to get away as officers arrived.

The man ran from officers despite commands for him to stop and put down the knife. After attempts to stop him failed, officers fired at him.

Police say the stabbings were believed to be random.
