Murphy says NJ sends mobile hospital to Virgin Islands
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy says New Jersey is sending a mobile hospital to help St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Murphy said in a statement Friday that the mobile hospital will serve at the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center.
The assistance comes after hurricanes Irma and Maria severely damaged the hospital.
Murphy says the request was made through a multi-state and territory emergency aid pact. The mobile hospital is expected to arrive in two weeks.
The unit includes an emergency department and intensive care unit as well as a post-operative care unit and, an operating room suite.
U.S. Virgin Islands health officer Michele Davis said in a statement the help would be “instrumental” to getting the hospital operational.
