Norway’s Bjoergen, Gloeersen win WCup sprints
DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) — Marit Bjoergen of Norway beat Kikkan Randall of the United States in a photo finish Sunday to complete a sprint-distance race victory double in the cross-country ski World Cup.
Bjoergen added the win to a 15-kilometer success Saturday for her 62nd career World Cup victory, and extended her overall standings lead. Denise Herrmann of Germany was third.
Randall, who rose to 5th overall, said: “When I made my move on the hill I was not as strong as I hoped.”
In the men’s sprint, Norway’s Anders Gloeersen got his first victory in three years.
Gloeersen crossed the line clear of runner-up Martti Jylhae of Finland and third-placed Sergey Ustiugov of Russia, who both got their first World Cup podium finishes.
Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway leads the overall standings.
