Plainview woman, child killed in Pierce County crash

A crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 81 in Pierce County has claimed the lives of two people, one of them a small child.

The crash occurred at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday, as a Buick Enclave driven by Rebecca Fischer, 36, of Plainview, attempted to turn west from Highway 81 onto Highway 13. The Buick was struck by a south-bound semi-trailer truck at the intersection five miles north of Norfolk and east of Hadar.

Fischer was pronounced dead at the scene. There were three small children in the vehicle as well.

Two of the children, Lium Fischer, 4, and Scarlett Fischer, 5, were taken to Faith Regional Heath Services in Norfolk. The third child, Lara Fischer, 2, was flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Lium Fischer died at the hospital. The two girls are expected to survive.

The driver of the truck, Tanner Albus, 26, of Decatur, also was transported to the Norfolk hospital with non life-threatening conditions.

Services for Rebecca Fischer and Lium Fisher are pending at Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the crash.

The names of those involved and additional details weren’t being released as of Thursday afternoon to allow for notification of family members.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the crash.

HADAR — An accident early Thursday afternoon on Highway 81 near here has traffic moving slowly or backed up and has resulted in several injuries.

It appears there are an empty semi-tanker truck and small SUV involved in the accident near the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 13, which is about five miles north of Norfolk.

A Nebraska State Patrol trooper said there are multiple injuries, including several juveniles. The accident scene will continue to be investigated, he said.

LifeNet medical helicopter is on hand, along with law enforcement from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, several ambulances from Norfolk Rescue, Hadar Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol and the Pierce County sheriff.

Both lanes for traffic were moving slowly about 1:50 p.m. Thursday with law enforcement directing traffic.
