Lunenburg Co-op Teams Enjoy Strong Finish to Skiing Season
WESTFORD -- The final alpine ski race of the year for the Lunenburg/Leominster/Littleton co-op program was held Thursday afternoon at Nashoba Valley Ski Area. The girls’ team was racing against Bedford High School, while the boys were in competition against Concord-Carlisle to determine seventh place in the league standings.
The girls had their strongest race of the year, with all eight skiers racing clean runs and no disqualifications for the first time all season. The group was once again led by Littleton’s Maria Mastorakos, with a time of 29.95 and a 14th-place finish, and Eveyln Tule, with a time of 30.83 and a 16th-place finish. Lunenburg’s sophomore duo of Abby Ball (38.05) and Genevieve Farr (38.16), along with seniors Victoria Bowen (36.01), Fiona McEvilly (41.52), Jackie Davis (42.01) and Meghan Conroy (42.24), helped secure a 47-30 victory over Bedford High.
The boys’ team also finished the year strong, racing without any disqualifications for the first time all year. Littleton’s Travis Reardon continued an impressive year with a third-place finish and a time of 25.30. Lunenburg junior Alex Powers completed his sixth finish of the year in 29th place with a time of 31.93. Leominster junior Matt Souza (33.35), Lunenburg freshman Harrison Taylor (39.21) and Lunenburg junior Joey Davis (48.36) finished out the team scoring in a narrow 38-34 loss to Concord-Carlisle.
