Softball drops 3 to open tourney
It was a rough first day at the Wickenburg Wrangler Classic for the Lake Havasu softball team, as the Knights lost all three games on Friday.
Lake Havasu (2-5) dropped the opener to Catalina Foothills 9-0 in five innings.
In the second game, the Knights were defeated by Empire 8-3. Head softball coach Kari Thompson said this was the best game offensively for Lake Havasu as Aubrie Carver scored twice and Taylor Thompson added two doubles.
“The lineup worked well together and was able to put some good swings on the ball,” said Thompson.
Paradise Honors won 9-1 in the finale over Lake Havasu.
“We got off to a slow start against Catalina Foothills and weren’t able to recover,” said Thompson. “We’re in a tough bracket, but we’re young so it’s good to see this caliber of competition.”
Thompson believes her team seeing this level of play will be better for her team in the long run.
The Knights will play two games today, however, their opponent has yet to be determined.
