Smoking Engine Forces 15 Northwest Passengers To Evacuate
ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) _ Fifteen passengers on a Northwest Airlines flight were safely evacuated at Detroit Metropolitan Airport because smoke was spotted coming from one of the turbo-prop’s two engines after landing, officials said.
The passengers left the Convair 580 commuter aircraft on Monday by its stairs and walked 100 feet to the gate, said airline spokesman William Wren. He said the cause of the problem was not immediately known. The flight originated in Lansing.
