No. 21 Rhode Island 75, Fordham 70

NEW YORK (AP) _ Joshua King scored 21 points and No. 21 Rhode Island hung on for a 75-70 victory over Fordham on Sunday, extending the Rams’ losing streak to a school-record 11 games.

Rhode Island (14-5, 6-2 Atlantic 10), which had lost its last two games and three of four, didn’t take the lead for good until Tyson Wheeler’s 3-pointer with 4:43 left gave it a 68-65 lead.

Fordham (4-15, 0-9), which had lost 10 straight games on three other occasions including to close last season, got back within a point on two free throws by Scott Harmatuk with 3:15 left. King was credited with a basket on a goaltending call with 2:28 left to make it 70-67. Rhode Island then made five of six free throws over the final 1:55 to offset a 3-pointer by Jason Harris.

Fordham’s last chance ended when Preston Murphy missed the second of two free throws with 24 seconds left, but Antonio Reynolds-Dean of Rhode Island grabbed the rebound, was fouled and made both free throws for the final margin.

Cuttino Mobley had 14 points for Rhode Island, while David Arigbabu had 11 and Reynolds-Dean 10.

Maurice Curtis led Fordham with 26 points, while Bevon Robin had 13 and Harris 11.

Rhode Island led 40-39 after a first half that saw 10 lead changes and 10 ties. Its biggest lead of the second half was six points twice, the last time at 55-49 with 12:29 to play.
