No. 3 Colorado 76, Oklahoma St. 58
SALINA, Kan. (AP) _ Isabella Fijalkowski led No. 3 Colorado with 21 points in a 76-58 victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday, as Colorado moved into the championship game of the Big Eight women’s basketball tournament.
Colorado (26-2) hit just one field goal in the first nine minutes of the game, while Oklahoma State (17-11) had an 11-2 run for a 16-6 lead with 11:13 left.
But Colorado responded with a 20-4 run sparked by a pair of baskets from Jen Terry and four close-range shots by Fijalkowski, giving Colorado a 26-22 halftime lead.
Colorado kept Oklahoma State at bay for nearly the first 16 minutes of the second half, never leading by more than 7 but never falling behind.
With 4:04 to play, Oklahoma State’s Yogi York, who led the team with 12 points, was called for a charge and assessed a technical foul when she briefly argued the call.
DeCelle Thomas hit both free throws that followed, and Big Eight Player of the Year Shelly Sheetz, who finished with 19 points, made both technical-foul shots to make it 63-53.
The Buffaloes hit 10 of their last 13 free throws to put the game away.
Oklahoma State head coach Dick Halterman received his second technical foul of the game with 39.2 seconds left and was ejected.
Colorado advances to the finals for the sixth time in program history and for the second consecutive year. The Buffaloes were upset by Missouri in last year’s championship game. Colorado will face the winner of Sunday’s Kansas-Oklahoma.
