IN THE NEWS: AMAZON DATA EXPOSED

NEW YORK (AP) — If you get an email from Amazon, it may not just be information about an item left in your online shopping cart. The online retailer says a technical error on its website exposed the names and email addresses of some of its customers. Amazon says the issue has now been fixed — and it has emailed those affected by the breach. The company isn’t disclosing how many people were affected — or if any of the information was stolen. But Amazon says its website and systems weren’t hacked.

IN THE NEWS: FACEBOOK APPEALS U.K. FINE

LONDON (AP) — Facebook is appealing the fine that was levied on it in the U.K. British officials have slapped a $644,000 fine on the social networking site for failing to protect the privacy of its users in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. In its appeal, Facebook argues that British regulators had failed to prove that U.K residents were directly affected by the scandal. The British agency that examined the matter concluded that Facebook processed personal information of users unfairly by giving app developers access to their information without informed consent.

IN STORES: BLACK FRIDAY REIMAGINED

NEW YORK (AP) — It used to be that Black Friday was a way to get people in the stores and malls the day after Thanksgiving __ or the evening of the holiday in some cases — to browse the aisles and pick up bargains. But now retailers are trying to incorporate Black Friday into a campaign to give shoppers the best of both the online and in-store worlds in this, the age of the app. Walmart, for example, has added a digital map to its mobile app to make it easier for shoppers to find the bargains they came in for. And to get them out with what they came in for, salespeople can now ring up items without customers having to wait on long lines. Meanwhile the mobile app for Kohl’s lets customers take photos of products sold elsewhere — and find similar items at a Kohl’s store.
