The head of the Providence City Council isn’t planning to try to override a mayoral veto that jeopardizes a plan for a 46-story skyscraper, a spokesman said Monday. Democratic Mayor Jorge Elorza vetoed a zoning change that would have allowed the proposed Hope Point Tower in Providence. If built, it would be the tallest building in the state. SENT: 350 words.


— GENERAL ASSEMBLY-ISSUES: As Rhode Island lawmakers are set to return to the Democratic-majority General Assembly next year, they still face divisions within the party over key issues like abortion and gun control. SENT.

— WHEATON COLLEGE FIRES: Authorities say fires were intentionally set in two bathrooms at a Wheaton College residence hall in Massachusetts, prompting the evacuation of about 100 students.



Nearly every time James Develin has touched the football this season for the Patriots, it’s resulted in a touchdown. A special teams player and fullback used mostly as a blocker on offense, he didn’t have carry in either of the previous two seasons. But his first three rushes of 2018 have resulted in touchdowns, including a career-high two scores in New England’s win over Minnesota.
