Suspect in Georgia triple shooting spotted in Alabama

August 28, 2019

SUMMERVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities are identifying the two people killed and one injured Tuesday at a northwest Georgia home, even as the suspected shooter was sighted in Alabama.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader tells local news outlets that 35-year-old Joe Edward Brown and his mother, 61-year-old Linda Mae Everett, were killed at the home in the Holland community. Schrader says 46-year-old Daryl Lee Marsh was shot and injured.

Steven James Mauldin is wanted for murder and car theft in the shooting.

Schrader says Mauldin was sighted late Tuesday near Birmingham, Alabama. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Mauldin may be driving a 2003 silver Honda Civic that was stolen from the house.

Schrader hasn’t said what may have sparked the shooting.

The deaths sparked a manhunt and precautions at schools in Chattooga County.
