Arora Grill serves an array of fare
Whether “brew” calls to mind a hot cup of coffee or an ice-cold beer, there’s a new place in Huntington serving up both. Located at the former home of Giovanni’s Pizza on 3rd Avenue across the street from Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium, the Arora Grill is a combination sports bar/coffee shop offering a variety of burgers, pizza and sandwiches along with fancy coffees. The restaurant is co-owned by husband and wife Robin and Shweta Arora. Both are doctors. Robin Arora works as a nephrologist and Shweta Arora works as an anesthesiologist. This is their first restaurant for the couple, with the doors officially being opened on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
“We own the building and we didn’t want it to sit empty. We reacquired the space after the owner of the last restaurant that was here defaulted on payments. It took us about three months until we were ready to open. We started work in May. We did some painting and some electrical work. We put in some new kitchen appliances as well,” Robin Arora said. “There wasn’t a coffee shop here before so we had to buy and bring in all of the coffee equipment. We also had to design the menu and hire the staff.”
The restaurant has a variety of craft pizzas in 12-inch and 16-inch sizes. Any pizza can also be turned into a cal-zone for $1.99 extra. Among the specialty pizzas is the Smokehouse Pizza starting at $12.99, which is topped with BBQ pulled pork, red onion, cheddar, mozzarella and scallions.
There’s also a Tater Pizza with a starting price of S13.99. This specialty pizza is made with garlic, olive oil, tater tots, caramelized onion, bacon brittle, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, scallions and a ranch drizzle.
“All of our pizzas are handcrafted. We have a pizza guy who has done this for years and he’s spread his knowledge,” explained Paul Pierce, a cook at the Arora Grill. “People really like to craft their own pies.”
The Arora Grill also serves a variety of hamburgers and sandwiches. Burgers such as the Basic Burger and the Fried Green Tomato Burger are made with beef patties that are marinated in Guinness beer. There’s also a Arora Club Sandwich and Marco’s Smashed Meatball Panini. Each sandwich and burger mentioned here is priced for under $9.
“The head chef Jimmy McCoy and I have been sauciers, we’ve worked with sauces for years. We’ve found lots of things that have worked that people are and are not doing. We try to grab from both because we want something different but something we know that people know they like,” Pierce said.
Warm up with a specialty coffee such as the Herd Mocha and Marshall’s Macchiato Cappuccino, made with coffee and espresso beans provided by Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea out of Columbus. There’s also a selection of draft beer and wine.
In addition to multiple large-screen televisions, co-owner Shweta Arora has given the restaurant something of an international feel.
“We install all of the TVs and a projector so we can put on all of the games. We also have NFL Sunday Ticket. It took awhile to come up with what we think is best. Of course we are Marshall fans, so some of the historic decorations stay,” he said. “We set up some globes on display because we wanted a global feel where everyone is welcome and it’s a happy place.”
