Man arrested after holding gun to person’s head
The Franklin County Sheriff’s office arrested David Frank Kelley, 37, Weston, on Jan. 24, and transported him to the Cache County Jail, where he awaits felony charges to be filed later today, Jan. 25.
At about 5:30 p.m., Jan. 24, a juvenile in a home in Weston called the sheriff’s department, saying that a male had a handgun and was holding it to the head of a female.
Dispatch stayed in contact with the juvenile while law enforcement hurried to the scene. By the time police arrived, the victims had made their way to a bedroom and barricaded themselves from the suspect, states a release from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. It was later reported that the suspect had two firearms in his possession.
No shots were fired in the incident, but firearms were found to be loaded when they were examined afterwards.
A Franklin County deputy, a Preston police officer and a sergeant from the Idaho State Police arrived on the scene and called for the suspect to come to them as they approached the front door of the residence. The suspect revealed himself and dropped a handgun and shotgun when directed.
However, the suspect would not follow commands to get on the ground and when one of the officers tried to place him under arrest, the suspect resisted and went for one of the officer’s firearms, states the release.
The suspect was tased and then subjected himself to arrest. One of the officers received a minor injury to his head.
More information will be available after Kelley is arraigned today. He is being held without bond until then.
