Oregon man sentenced for threatening, yelling slurs at boys
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A white Oregon man who yelled racist slurs at black children and threatened them with a knife has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Thursday that 61-year-old Michael Tori Amatullo was sentenced in Portland Thursday.
Judge Christopher Ramras told Amatullo he could have received as few as 10 months under sentencing laws, but received more time for the damage caused to the two boys by using racial epithets against them.
Ramras says he imagines “most African Americans can remember the first time” someone used a racist word against them.
Amatullo lived in the same Portland apartment complex as the 7-year-old and 15-year-old brothers.
Authorities say Amatullo screamed at the younger boy in December and threatened them both when the older boy intervened.
