Saints lead Redskins 26-13 at halftime
NEW ORLEANS That could have been a lot worse.
At halftime, the Redskins trail the New Orleans Saints 26-13, but they were bailed out partially by a late turnover that helped set up a four-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Alex Smith.
So far, the Redskins haven’t had an answer for Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who has completed 85 percent of his passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
With 2:36 left in the first half, Brees became the all-time leader in passing yards when he hit Tre’Quan Smith for a 62-yard touchdown. Brees needed 201 yards before Monday’s game to surpass the record held by Peyton Manning.
Washington, meanwhile, has committed three costly penalties that kept two scoring drives alive for the Saints.
They will need to clean up those mental mistakes and more if they want to come back in the second half.
