Body Found of Skier Buried by Avalanche
OVINDOLI, Italy (AP) _ A search dog on Sunday found the body of a skier buried under six feet of snow from an avalanche that roared down a ski slope, Italian media reported.
The slide struck Saturday on Mount Magnola’s principal run, injuring two skiers and prompting the search for Riccardo Castro, 36, of Rome. He and two other people were buried, but the other two were rescued immediately by other skiers.
The search for Castro had been halted at nightfall Saturday and resumed at dawn at the popular ski area in Ovindoli, a town 80 miles east of Rome in the Abruzzi region.
News reports Sunday said magistrates began an investigation to see if the avalanche danger could have been detected.
