Clinton Announces Envoy Nominees

WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Clinton said Monday he plans to nominate career Foreign Service officers to be ambassadors to the former Soviet republics of Armenia and Moldova.

Clinton said his choice for envoy to Armenia is Michael C. Lemmon of Sarasota, Fla., who until recently was deputy assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs. He entered the Foreign Service in 1974 and has served diplomatic posts in Moscow, Islamabad and Rabat.

The president said he would nominate Rudolf Vilem Perina of Los Angeles to be ambassador to Moldova. Perina also began his Foreign Service career in 1974 and has specialized in Russian, East European, German and NATO affairs. Most recently he was senior deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Canadian Affairs.

The nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
