Gunfire Probed in South Lowell

July 10, 2018

LOWELL -- Police recovered a dozen shell casings after responding to reports of gunshots fired near the corner of Stromquist Avenue and Corbett Street shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.

No injuries were found during the course of the investigation, according to Lowell police Capt. Paul Laferriere.

A pair of area residents, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were sitting on their home’s deck when they heard, “12 pows,” according to the female witness.

She then saw an older-model Jeep Cherokee speed off northbound on Stromquist Avenue.

“I first thought it was fireworks, but it was too loud, so I was convinced it was gunshots,” the witness said.

After calling 911, the two witnesses confirmed their suspicions when they went to the source of the noise and discovered 12 shell casings on the Stromquist Avenue sidewalk.

Police arrived shortly after.

Laferriere said an investigation is ongoing.

A black Jeep Cherokee may be involved, he said.
