TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) _ Neisa Johnson’s 10-foot jumper broke a tie with 2:23 remaining and No. 21 Alabama went on to a 72-69 victory over Auburn in Southeastern Conference women’s game Wednesday night.

Linda Burgess scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Crimson Tide (18-4 overall, 5-3 SEC). It was her 12th 20-point game of the season.

Auburn (13-10, 2-6) routed the Tide 77-48 last year and led this game 30-25 at the break. But the Lady Tigers never were up by more than six points and Alabama went ahead for good when Johnson’s basket made it 64-62.

Auburn got within 68-67 with 29 seconds remaining on Jackie Williams’ layup, but Betsy Harris and Amy Lannom each hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory.

Harris came off the bench to score 17 points, while Johnson had 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and 11 assists.

Suzette Sargeant led Auburn with 20 points, Lauretta Freeman had 14, Tracie Crawford 12 and Kendall Mago 10.
