Greater Lowell is Early Qualifier for State Tourney; Tewksbury, NDA Up
We’re not even halfway through January and the Greater Lowell Tech girls basketball team has already clinched a spot in the state tournament.
The Gryphons topped Northeast, 52-20, Friday to improve to 10-2 and solidify a tourney spot for the 10th straight year.
Fatta Krah had 15 points for the Gryphons. Kaelynn Tanner knocked down four 3-pointers and had 14 points and 5 rebounds. Aliza Som added 13 points and 4 rebounds for GLT.
Michaela Kelly and Annie LaGrega played strong all-around games.
Senior guards and sisters Erin and Lizzie Gallella had 20 and 15 points, respectively, in the Tewksbury win.
Kiley Tibbetts contributed 9 points. Tewksbury won its 4th straight.
Notre Dame 39
The Lancers were forced into overtime before prevailing in this CAC matchup in Chelsea.
The game was tied at 32 before NDA (5-2) outscored Chelsea 7-2 in the four-minute OT.
Natalie Kelleher had 11 points and Megan Pefime chipped in with 10 to lead Notre Dame. Caitlin Ryan added 7 points to the effort.
Lowell Catholic 24
For Lowell Catholic (1-6), Chloe-Elizabeth Arthur had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Emily Bartlett added 6 points.
Junior forward Falynne Rzezuski poured in 27 points to outscore Tahanto by herself.
Junior guard Caitlin Feltus and freshman forward Sara McDonald had 8 points each for LHS (2-6).
Sophomore Meghan Goode had a season-high 27 points to lead Chelmsford High (6-3) to the MVC triumph.
Junior Abbie Quirback had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Kate Krueger scored 13 points for the Lions.
Dracut got 12 points from junior guard Nikki Andersson. Freshman center Aya Alkassar had 9 points and 12 rebounds.
The game was tied 32-32 after three quarters and then THS took over.
Senior guard Sara Anselmo had 16 points and junior forward Sam Fagundes had 15 points for the Tigers.
Westford Acad. 34
Jen Martin drained a 3-pointer with less than 2 minutes left to put Westford (7-2, 3-1 DCL Large) in front 31-30 and WA held on. Martin, a sophomore, finished with 12 points.
Brooke Pillsbury had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks for the Grey Ghosts. Morgan Rose had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
