Firefighters Find Burned Body of Boy, His Faithful Dog By His Side
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The burned bodies of a 5-year-old boy and his dog were found side-by-side in a small frame house gutted in a Tuesday morning blaze, police said.
The child was identified as Rusty Travis Morgan Jr., said Jack Espinosa, spokesman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Injured in the fire were Dixie Stoner and Shena C. Morgan, the 8-month-old sister of the dead boy. The infant was treated at Tampa General Hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
Miss Stoner, 18, was listed in fair condition at University Community Hospital, where she was being treated for smoke inhalation. Police did not know Miss Stoner’s relationship with the children.
The house was in Ruskin, an unincorporated agricultural area southeast of here. Police said the father was not at home when the fire began. No information was available on the mother.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
