Jury trial called off in drug case

October 12, 2018

A jury trial scheduled in a drug case against a Blue Springs man was called off at the last minute Wednesday after a last-minute plea bargain was reached.

Aaron Burr was arrested in 2017 following a drug distribution case in Blue Springs.

Authorities made controlled purchases of methamphetamine at a residence where Burr was known to reside last May.

He was one of four people arrested last July following the investigation.

Burr was originally charged with aiding and abetting a class 2 felony and conspiracy to commit a class 3 felony.

A jury trial was scheduled to start Wednesday in Gage County District case, though prosecutors and defense attorneys were able to reach a last minute plea agreement.

Per the agreement, Burr is now charged with two counts of attempting a class 4 felony, each a class 1 misdemeanor.

Burr pleaded no contest to the new charges and will be sentenced in the case on Dec. 6.

As part of the agreement, Burr must also complete a treatment program prior to sentencing.
