Theater Chain Switches to Pepsi from Coca-Cola

NEW YORK (AP) _ Theater chain operator National Amusements Inc. has signed Pepsi-Cola Co. as its exclusive soft drink supplier, ending a long relationship with rival Coca-Cola Co., Pepsi said Friday.

Pepsi said its multi-year contract with Boston-based National Amusements will begin in early February.

The theater operator has the eighth-largest theater chain in the United States with about 650 screens attracting 50 million moviegoers a year, Pepsi said.

″We’re honored that they’ve given us the chance to prove our commitmnet to growing their business,″ said Rick Routhier, general manager of national sales for Pepsi, which is based in Somers, N.Y.

In Atlanta, Coca-Cola spokesman Bob Bertini said, ″We regret the decision″ but added that Coca-Cola products continue to account for more than 85 percent of the soft drink volume sold in U.S. movie theaters.
