Tornado Kills 2 in Bangladesh
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) _ A tornado tore through several villages in northern Bangladesh on Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring 100 others, officials said.
Several thousands were left homeless as the twister ripped through riverfront villages in Kurigram district, 150 miles north of Dhaka, the nation’s capital.
Funnel clouds leveled or blew away at least 4,000 tin-roof and mud-and-thatch huts, damaged rice fields and knocked down hundreds of trees and electricity poles, a government official at Kurigram said in a telephone interview.
He said relief workers reached the area with dried food for the homeless.
