COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) _ NBA rookie Jay Williams will replace injured Milwaukee Bucks guard Ray Allen on the U.S. team for the World Basketball Championship.

Allen withdrew this week because of a knee injury.

Williams, taken second overall in the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls after starring at Duke, had been an alternate on the team. Earlier, Hornets guard Baron Davis replaced Nets star Jason Kidd, who withdrew because of a groin injury.

The championships are Aug. 29-Sept. 8 in Indianapolis.

The rest of the team includes Elton Brand and Andre Miller of the Los Angeles Clippers; Michael Finley and Raef LaFrentz of Dallas; Reggie Miller and Jermaine O’Neal of Indiana; Antonio Davis of Toronto; Shawn Marion of Phoenix; Paul Pierce of Boston; and Ben Wallace of Detroit.

Nick Collison, who plays at Kansas University, is an alternate.
