Matvichuk Hit in Jaw With Puck
DALLAS (AP) _ Dallas Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk likely broke his jaw Wednesday night when he blocked a shot by New Jersey’s Sergei Brylin with his stick and the puck shot straight up to his face.
``It looks like the jaw is broken,″ Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. ``The best-case scenario is he’ll be out a week and then come back with a bar over his jaw.″
Matvichuk shed his gloves and stick as he collapsed to the ice and covered his face. He was taken to Baylor University Medical Center for X-rays.
The injury occurred with 4:47 left in the first period and Dallas trailing 4-1, which ended up being the final score.
