WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) _ Gilbert Renfroe of Toronto picked the highly touted Winnipeg secondary apart with key passes to Darrell Smith and Paul Pearson as the Argonauts posted a 19-3 victory over the Bombers in the CFL Eastern Division final Sunday.
Renfroe tossed a 48-yard pass to Smith to set up his own 1-yard plunge for a touchdown in the second quarter. Toronto’s Warren Hudson recovered a fumbled punt deep in Winnipeg territory late in the fourth quarter, setting up Tony Johns’s touchdown that sealed the game.
Kicker Lance Chomyc rounded out the scoring with a 27-yard field goal, a 32-yard single and two converts. Hank Ilesic also kicked a single.
Trevor Kennerd kicked a 13-yard field goal in the second quarter for Winnipeg’s only points.
Renfroe completed 18 of 35 passes for 246 yards and one interception. The second-year player had missed seven games earlier this year with a knee injury.
