DA: DiCaprio’s Stepbrother Released
LOS ANGELES (AP) _Leonardo DiCaprio’s stepbrother was released from jail Friday night pending further investigation of allegations that he attempted to kill his girlfriend.
Adam Farrar, 28, was arrested this week for investigation of attempted murder and making terrorist threats. He was held in lieu of $1 million bail until his release.
Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said authorities had new information that had to be investigated before any decision on filing charges can be made. She would not say what the new information was.
Under law, if no charges are filed within 48 hours of an arrest, a person must be released.
``This case is still under investigation,″ Gibbons said. ``We should have a filing decision by next week.″
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Marina del Rey home of Farrar’s girlfriend on Wednesday. The woman, whose name was not released, did not require medical aid and other details were withheld.
DiCaprio’s father is Farrar’s stepfather, and the actor and Farrar grew up together.
Steve Jaffe, a spokesman for the Farrar family, said Friday the family had no further comment.
``Mr. Farrar is a free man and is with his family,″ Jaffe said.
