Bar Star: Ashley Nicole at The Davenport

August 2, 2018

The Houston bar scene is full of personalities — bar stars, if you will. Each week in Preview, we’ll feature one of these mixologists to let you know more about them, aside from how good they are at making you feel good.

Length of time working at current place?

Almost three years. In the industry for eight-ish.

Nickname?

Nikki and Smash.

Lamest pickup line you’ve heard at the bar?

I don’t know about pick up lines, but I’ve seen a guy trying to impress a group of women by buying a bunch of drinks. He underestimated his own drunkenness and puked mid-sentence while standing up. It was terribly embarrassing.

Most famous person you’ve ever served a drink to?

There have been a few but my fave was Fergie. Super Bowl, baby. And Scarface.

Becoming friends with customers: yes or no?

Yes! Not everyone but, I have quite a few that have become friends.

Song you’ve gotten sick of at work?

I’d have to say Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.” Cardi is my girl, but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the song 1 million times.

What’s the sloppiest, drunkest thing you’ve ever seen on the job?

No lie — a lady literally pooped on herself at the bar.

What’s the most outrageous request you’ve ever gotten?

Put my fingers in a drink to stir it. It’s funny because it’s happened more than once.

Where do you like to go have a drink when you’re not at work?

My go-to spots are Cellar Bar and anywhere with hookah.

What’s your specialty drink, and how do you make it?

I create new drinks all the time. It depends on who I’m making it for. Recently, the Paradise Martini: Ketel One Botanical Peach & Orange Blossom, Domaine de Canton, S&S and lemon juice.

What’s something your customers may not know about you?

I’m afraid of the dark.
