Undated (AP) _ OSLO, Norway (AP) - Norway completed a 4-1 victory over Luxembourg in a European Zone Group 2 final of the Davis Cup tennis tournament.

On Sunday, Bent Ove Pedersen breezed past Johny Goudenbour 6-2, 6-1 and Jacques Redoux picked up Luxembourg’s only point with a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Anders Haseth.

Both matches were shortened to best-of-three sets after Norway took an unbeatable 3-0 lead after Saturday’s doubles match.

Haseth beat Goudenbour 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Christian Ruud beat Alberto Paris 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in Friday’s opening singles. Pedersen and Anders Rolfsen downed Serge Bruck and Paris 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 in the doubles.


ERIE, Pa. (AP) - Jaren Jackson scored 26 points as the Dayton Wings defeated the Erie Wave 127-109 in the World Basketball League.

Alfredrick Hughes added 21 in Sunday’s game for Dayton (28-8), which leads the Southern Division by six games. Perry McDonald dadded 18 and Eddie Hughes 15 for the Wings.

Jamie Waller led Erie with 30 points and Richard Hollis had 26. Erie is 11-26 and in last place in the Northern Division, 15 1/2 games behind first- place Calgary.


LE CASTELLET, France (AP) - American Wayne Rainey took another step toward defending his world 500cc motorcycle title with a victory over Australia’s Michael Doohan in the French Grand Prix.

Doohan finished four seconds back in Sunday’s race, followed by Americans Eddie Lawson and Kevin Schwantz.

Rainey, racing for Yamaha, has 168 points in the season standings after 10 races, compared to 160 for Doohan. Schwantz is third at 136 and Lawson fourth at 108.
