Bob Dole Attends Rotary Luncheon
OLATHE, Kan. (AP) _ It seemed like old times for Bob Dole, who mugged for the cameras and shook hands and signed autographs in his home state of Kansas.
Dole was a straggler Wednesday after a Rotary Club luncheon in Olathe, where the guest speaker posed for pictures with the people who had served at the event.
``I was always the last one to leave the event, just like today,″ Dole joked.
The former Senate Majority Leader and Republican presidential candidate made several area appearances, including one at MidAmerica Nazarene University where he plugged his World War II memorial project that he hopes to have funded by Veterans Day. That will be a tall order.
``It’s not easy to raise $100 million when you don’t have a Lincoln Bedroom,″ he joked.
Dole also poked fun at post-political life, including his turn as a pitchman for Visa’s debit card.
``That Visa commercial’s going to expire at the end of the month,″ he said. ``Then I’ll be looking for work.″
